The perpetual pull of Norrath
Posted by: Mike in EverQuest 2, Gaming, Hobbies, Rayda Skaldensen, Dwarf Paladin, World of WarcraftIt’s a sad state of affairs but my gaming time these days is split between XBox Live where I’m currently charging up the ranks on Call of Duty 4 and World of Warcraft where my level 44 Paladin is bounding through Alterac Mountains doing seasonal quests. “Why is this a sad state of affairs?” is something you’re probably not asking, but which I will explain.
It’s sad because in 2002 I discovered EverQuest and from that moment on became an MMO nut. It was wonderful, I indulged in role-play with my Half-Elf Hunter and got to know the vast world of Norrath like the back of my hand. I loved my homelands of Surefall Glade and the Qeynos Hills around it, marvelled at the chilly lands of Halas, travelled across continents to the Butcherblock Mountains and still remember my final days in EQ1, just last year in fact, where I braved The Warrens and a never ending stream of enraged creatures.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love Azeroth (the lands of World of Warcraft) and get a great deal of enjoyment out of the game however there was a time when I was a Guild Leader, when I could devote time and energy into the detailed and complex quests of EverQuest 1 and 2. One of my favourite albums in TripleB’s gaming gallery is of a run across Antonica in EverQuest 2 where my friend Jym and I took on everything in our way on a mission that began at Six PM one evening and didn’t conclude until Midnight.
So despite my devotion to getting my level 44 Paladin in World of Warcraft levelled in time for the new expansion next year, I find myself once again patching up EverQuest 2.
